Rib Stitch Hat for Men and Women

Rib Stitch Hat on an Extra Large Round Loom

Rib Stitch Hat

Dust-off that extra-large round loom you thought was too big for a hat and lets put it to good use. Make a really cool brimless rib stitch hat for your man and a sweet matching one for you.

This one is easy enough for a beginner, just three knits and a purl. And in case you’ve never heard that you could knit a purl there is a step by step video tutorial to help you with this FREE pattern.

I made a beanie version but I give you the information you need to make it as slouchy as you like. One extra nice thing about this hat is that no matter what it will keep its shape. How’s that for a hat made with a large loom?

Hi, do you have a knit pattern for this gorgeous hat?

    • Denise Canela October 3, 2016 at 8:16 pm

Hi Chantelle – When you say “knit” do you mean with needles ? – If so – don’t know how to needle knit. …sorry

    Hello !
I used (2) different colors of #4 yarn and it’s pretty tight when stating but gradually getting easier … Unless I’m getting stronger … Is this because I used (2) strands ? Also .. When cleaning up the end ; are the loops you pull the same loops you would have found when pulling over to make a brim ? I’m kinda lost on that part … Thankyou & love your vids ??❤️??

Hi Jena, this pattern works best with 1 strand. If you want the hat to be thicker use a chunky yarn. Yes, the first row of knitting would be the one you tighten. Here is a post and video for that: Click HERE

    Hey Denise!
First of all thank you sooooo much for your videos and patterns, I was able to learn loom knitting just from your videos and have really enjoyed having a new hobby. I just made the rib stitch hat for my brother for christmas and now that I’ve finished it i find that I have the length for the hat to be slouchy but instead of being kind of floppy like I thought it would be my hat stands up like a cone head haha. I used #5, Lion brand wool ease thick and quick yarn and I was wondering if maybe my yarn was too bulky or stiff to slouch right? Is that a possibility and if so could I maybe wash it and soften it up some? Any ideas would be appreciated.

    Thanks from a big fan!
    Ashlyn

Hey Ashlyn, sorry for the delay (after Christmas) 🙁 …but Yes a bit of softner and light heat from the dryer softens the yarn – for the next one it’s best to use the #4 worsted weigth yarn for this particular pattern.

Hi I have just started loom knitting especially to produce hats for every homeless person, needy child out there.I did a e-wrap hat with the rolled up bottom but after 2 days it had gone all outta shape at the bottom where my 5yr granddaughter put it on its such a easy design but is there anyway to make it tighter or fix this problem 🙂 thank u

    • Denise Canela December 27, 2015 at 11:05 pm

Nathalie – eWraps are a bit unstable – wet blocking helps get them back into shape

Thank you for all of your wonderful videos!! Will a #4 worsted weight not work for this pattern? And…could I use the crochet cast on for this one, instead of having to tighten up the loose stitches at the end? Thank you!

    • Denise Canela December 15, 2015 at 11:31 pm

      Yes and Yes

I am confused, The yarn info at polka dot says use a wool blend but says it used vannas choice an acrylic also the row knitting says end with k4, per the video it has a k4 then p1 to complete thanks for the help

    • Denise Canela July 5, 2015 at 2:22 am

Betty, I don’t know what or where is “polka dot”. I only recommended (not necessarily -used) a wool blend – no VC is not a wool blend but it is a blend. It’s acrylic and rayon. You are correct about the end of the pattern row – (No pattern testers at home) I have fixed it – THANK YOU – THANK YOU BETTY !
