Haven’t tried looming yet, and only taught myself to crochet a couple of years ago. Nonetheless I’ve made some cool gifts for family, which has saved me money, and I find it very therapeutic.

    • Denise Canela January 20, 2014 at 2:45 pm Reply

Hey Lynn, you have to try Loom Knitting – way easier then any other yarn craft ! I’m a little partial. :). As far as health benefits here is a little snippet from Wikipedia: Health benefits

Studies have shown that knitting, along with other forms of needlework, provide several significant health benefits. These studies have found the rhythmic and repetitive action of knitting can “help prevent and manage stress, pain and depression, which in turn strengthens the body’s immune system”,as well as create a relaxation response in the body which can decrease blood pressure, heart rate, help prevent illness, and have a calming effect. Pain specialists have also found that the brain chemistry is changed when one knits, resulting in an increase in “feel good” hormones (i.e. serotonin and dopamine), and a decrease in stress hormones

I just started looming last night, actually. Omgoodness it’s so much fun and very addicting. I loomed my first preemie beanie and I was so excited about how easy it was that my husband and I decided that we want to start looming preemie/newborn babies for CHOC hospital in Orange County because our son was in their NICU two years ago. We want to give back. Thank you, Loomahat.com (and Denise) for teaching me and encouraging me to give back!!!!! 🙂

Thank YOU – Thank YOU Amy, you have no idea what your kind words mean to me. I appreciate them Big Time. Was really down today – you’ve given me a booster shot girlfriend. Have lots of fun making those tiny hats they’re really needed the NICU is a cold place.

I had to give my hands a few days of rest because when I posted a pic of the first hat I loom knitted on Facebook about the last part of November, I ended up with 8 requests to buy a hat in time for Christmas. But am gently being coached back to my loom, as I received my yarn order from JOANN online and I cannot resist the colors, oh sorry hands, we are going back to looming, grin.
