Tiny Heart Stitch on a Knitting Loom
This very new, very cute little stitch is made up of just two rows. The Tiny Heart Stitch is one row of e-wrap stitch and one row of what the creator Theresa Higby calls a Purl Over and I call a Half-Knit. That purl over is the key element to mastering this technique and other new stitches in her repertoire.
What I like the best is that it almost looks airy a bit lacey but in fact it is a dense stitch. Works well flat or in the round. It was so easy to learn and I liked it so much that I made my first hat, in the picture above just minutes after watching the video. I used one strand of baby yarn on the red medium Knifty Knitter loom. The hat feels wonderful.

Stitch Pattern: Made-up of 2 Rows

Cast on: Using your preferred method
Row 1: e-Wrap Knit Stitch (this row creates the two prong pointy bottom of the heart)
Row 2: Tiny Heart Stitch (this row creates the two little bumps on the top of the heart)
1. Put your working yarn above the loop on your peg. ( Like a Flat Knit)
2. With your hook, come up from the bottom
3 Grab the yarn and create a new loop.
4. DO NOT take the loop off the peg.
5. Take that loop and fold it back on to the peg
6. Pull your working yarn slightly tight
THAT’S IT – YOU’RE DONE ! ! !
Continue to repeat these two rows until you have the desired length.
Note: Try to end with Row 2 so that your tiny heart isn’t headless. 🙂

On row 2 of the pattern do you slip first and then heart stitch to the end or last stitch e wrap?

In flat panels I always slip the first stitch on all rows and use a knit stitch on the last peg.

Hello , I’ve just finished looming a tiny heart stitch scarf , but the edges on both sides are curling in . What did I do wrong ?
After casting on , I did e-wrap stitch on row 1 .
Row 2 : purl-over on every pegs except the last peg , I did e-wrap stitch.
Row 3 : e-wrap
Row 4 : purl-over on every pegs except the last peg , I did e-wrap stitch . And so on .

Glad you liked Theresa’s stitch. It’s is lovely and I think it’s a GREAT stitch for any blanket.
Denise what does it mean on patterns when it says to do something in multiples and reading them right to left or left to right? watching a video is so much easier.
Hey Barb – the multiples are the number of stitches you will knit to create that stitch pattern. So if the multiple is say 4 and you have a loom with 24 pegs – you will repeat that stitch pattern 6 times. If your loom is 26 pegs you will be repeating that stitch pattern 6 times and will have 2 extra pegs to either knit 1/2 the stitch pattern or make a creative decision to do something else because it takes 4 pegs to complete that stitch pattern.
I hope that answer didn’t make the question even more painful. Hopefully I helped some.

Yes, and it would turn out very nicely. I suggest a worsted weight #4 yarn.

Kim, this stitch will work with ANY size loom. I do recommend that you use only 1 strand of yarn regardless of the loom gauge. I made a little hat with this stitch on the 24-peg, Heads-up it is very tiny but it does feel great.

So I am totally digging this stitch. I think it’s adorable and can’t wait to try it! I do have a question though. Can this be done with a bulky yarn or is it better suited for worsted weight? Also, this can be done on a round loom, correct?

Hi Jen, I have not tried this stitch with a bulky – don’t believe it will work well but I could be wrong. As far as round looms – the little hat in the picture was made on the red Knifty Knitter 31-peg round loom.

Hey, it’s me again with another question about this stitch. I have gotten several rows finished but it is turning out very lacy. There is a lot of space between my “hearts.” I am using a 4 yarn. Am I doing something wrong?
Jen, I thought that when I first knit this stitch however knit at least 5-10 rows – then take a look at the backside of the knitting and you should see that the knitted piece is actually pretty dense. I would say that the 4 is the perfect yarn weight for the little hearts to show up. Let me know if that didn’t help and if so – send me a pic denise@loomahat.com

I love this hat can you please tell me how to make on a round loom for a 4 year old . How would I cast on and off thank you so much
Hi Chantel. For a 4 year old your best bet is the 36-peg loom. A Chain Cast-on: Click HERE 4 Rows of Garter Stitch – 26 Rows of the Tiny Heart – Cast off with the Flat Draw-String : Click HERE . I will post the pattern again – later this week .

hate to barge in on the conersation but I saw this pattern this morning and I just finished my granddaughters hat….It looks fabulous!! I used a round loom 36 peg, ewrapped my cast on, I did 2″ of ribbing stitch for the brim and did the rest in this half knit stitch, then finished the flat cast off
