Awareness Ribbon Meaning for Cancer

Awareness Ribbon Meaning for Cancer

Awareness-Ribbon-meaningHere is a list of Awareness Ribbon Meaning in alphabetical order by the type of Cancer.  I didn’t know that this even existed. Until now, I was only aware of the pink and purple ribbons.

After my post about Knitting Rays of Hope I wanted to do more research about knitting for cancer patients. This seemed like a good place to start.

I was thinking about a dozen colors or so, but no, how about 30. Each one representing a different type of cancer. I can’t explain it but this information was heavy on my heart. With every color I added I pictured a family in pain. If we could cut just one color – Lavender would be my first choice, it represents All Cancers.

Uterine cancer usually occurs after menopause. Being obese and taking estrogen-alone hormone replacement therapy (also called menopausal hormone therapy) also increase your risk. Treatment varies depending on your overall health, how advanced the cancer is and whether hormones affect its growth. Treatment is usually a hysterectomy, which is surgery to remove the uterus. The ovaries and Fallopian tubes are also removed. Other options include hormone therapy and radiation.

Smoking increases the risk of developing gastric cancer significantly, from 40% increased risk for current smokers to 82% increase for heavy smokers. Gastric cancers due to smoking mostly occur in the upper part of the stomach near the esophagus.

Bladder cancer characteristically causes blood (redness) in the urine. This blood in the urine may be visible to the naked eye (gross/macroscopic hematuria) or detectable only by microscope (microscopic hematuria). Hematuria is the most common symptom in bladder cancer.;:.’
