Bamboo Stitch Hat Step by Step Video

Bamboo Stitch Hat Pattern Video

Bamboo Stitch Hat

The Bamboo stitch hat has a really nice textured look. The stitch was a bit funky to convert in 2015 and the result was not exactly what I thought – it’s even better and I love it. It looks difficult but it’s actually easy once you understand the technique of slipping with the yarn in front. Isn’t it great that there is a video to walk you through this step if you are not familiar with it.

Supplies for the Bamboo Stitch Hat:

Bamboo stitch hat

NOTE: Keep in mind that any change in the loom or the yarn will give you a whole other look.

Supplies used in featured item:

Loom: Any Extra Large. The KB Adjustable Loom was Used in Featured Sample under heading.

Yarn: 170 Yards of Worsted Weight, Single Strand. Lion Brand Wool-Ease in Cranberry Used in Featured Sample under heading.

Hook: Any Loom Knitting Hook. Authentic Knitting Board Ergonomic Hook

Pattern Notes:

Tight fit beanie. This project takes a lot more yarn than would be expected for a snug fitting hat. If using a large gauge loom you can still use just 1 strand of yarn

I just got my first KB loom but they have this stitch on there site and it is usually the AHL or AIO loom used. If you want to see the bamboo stitch they do have one. As it for hat, scarf or square not sure. Just go to site hit patterns choose your loom and patterns appear. I love Densie so this by no means is to deter you from her, but just for you to learn how your loom works will give you more of a chance to do Denise’s patterns. They also have a stichology blog, but I think its just stitch info for many stitches and she does sometimes note how to use it on a different loom if possible.

I just purchased the KB adjustable hat loom and haven’t yet tried the bamboo stitch hat. Denise is the best tutorial that I’ve seen by far. Thank you for your input.

Hi Cindy, On bamboo stitch hat, can I use the all in one loom? If so, will I still use 80 pegs or more. Sorry for the weird question I’m new to looming and still learning. Will you be doing any videos using all in one loom? Thanks ?

    • Denise Canela February 11, 2017 at 12:36 pm

Ellen – I have not tested this pattern and so I can’t really say. It’s not the number of pegs but the size of you base. : Click HERE

        Thank you

Hi Denise I have a question
I really like the Pom Pom in this video
How did you make it? Every time I make one they fall apart on me.
I have done one on the loom and left it loopy but if you could send me a good link on the Pom Pom I would appreiate that !
Thank you from Nova Scotia Canada ??

    • Denise Canela February 4, 2017 at 4:01 pm

      Amy,
The only to keep any pom pom from following apart is to tie the string that holds it together VERY tightly. I made this pom pom with a book and then cut it into shape. For some ideas Click HERE

So the denim long stocking shape hat is the same pattern as the bamboo stitch beanie, but with thick yarn and a different size loom? Wow what a difference.

    • Denise Canela February 4, 2017 at 3:57 pm

That’s right. Same pattern with a different loom and thicker yarn.

  5. Gina February 3, 2017 at 8:58 am

Yes, I know. I will try and join soon. As for hat. I have this loom now as I am thrilled to see you compkete a full project since you are only loomer I can actually enjoy to hear and watch for the way I like to learn. You mention this hat is snug. I know you used 80 pegs do you recommend that for the adults with a smaller head and if so would that fit would be good for a child or should I use less pegs for a child and can I use more for an adult? This Loom can do four different sizes as you know and I’m not sure if you used the largest size. I’d have to look and check the peg count again on the box but maybe the larger size won’t accommodate the repeat and again I would have to check. I think it was I believe a three repeat I’m not sure so it has to be divisible by the number of repeats if I’m correct. And how did you add the buttons did you just stitch them on with a little bit of yarn or floss? Sorry for the long message, but since this is the first pattern that I’ve seen from you completed on this Loom and I got this room because you said how much you love it and so far it seems like a really great Loom so I definitely want to use it and member I suggested we do squares to complete hopefully an Afghan like sampler using all the stitches from past teachings and new teachings since you have a lot of people who really love watching your videos including me. Yes, on the KB site there is someone who has a Blog that is called stitchology 101 and she has several different stitches and the goal would be to complete an afghan if people wanted but the Stitch range is really different so there’s a lot of variety some I love and of course there are harder one’s and easy ones as well. Regardless I think you should do one because it would be a great project to do since people love the way you teach and I love the way you teach.

I was wondering would this work on the large oval loom?

    • Denise Canela February 2, 2017 at 10:48 pm

YES – for sure! This hat tends to be snug so that loom will work well for a more loose fit. Please share your picture Angela.

  7. Trina Chase February 1, 2017 at 5:10 pm

Can I use a 36 peg loom for this hat?

    • Denise Canela February 2, 2017 at 10:49 pm

      Not for an adult

      • Trina Chase February 3, 2017 at 7:32 am

First of all, I want to tell you thank you for all your great videos. Your videos are the only ones I watch. You explain the process very well & go at a good pace.
I have ordered a 41-peg loom, but I couldn’t wait to try this pattern so I started it on 36-peg. Where can I find a loom like the one you’re using in this video? Thanks again!

        • Denise Canela February 4, 2017 at 4:10 pm

Too Sweet Trina !!! Thank YOU .. As for the loom – you should be able to find it at you local craft store – if not here is a link for Amazon (my other obession) : Click HERE

          • Trina Chase February 6, 2017 at 8:22 am

I received a gift certificate from Herschnerr’s. I used it to buy the same type of hat loom you’ve used in the video. I also bought a 41-peg loom. Thanks again.

  9. Etta Tuthill February 1, 2017 at 12:37 pm

Hi Denise, my name is Etta. I totally love all of your projects, and your videos are so easy to follow along. I was wondering and hoping if you can find a way to make infant pants/tops from the loom. I have tried looking and mostly see crochet patterns. Never crocheted, but will try it. It’s just easier for me to loom as I have osteoarthritis in my hands. Again thank you for all you do and bring to us! I really appreciate all your hard work! 🙂

    • Denise Canela February 2, 2017 at 11:00 pm

Yes Etta – I will be doing some but for now Scarlett Royal is making infant outfits Click HERE

Will you no longer write pattern on blog like before and just sell pdf and free video?

    • Denise Canela February 2, 2017 at 10:52 pm

Depends on the pattern – right now there are patrons on Patreon that get all my monthly patterns for $1.00 per month. The issue is that there is a cost to running a website and having supplies. I have to do a little give and take to survive.

      • Gina February 3, 2017 at 9:08 am

I can absolutley agree with that. I understand. I know money is a must even for me. I want to buy yarn like 100% wool and now since I got money today for my birthday that is the plan or another kb AIOL. Maybe even Cindiwood loom. But, I didn’t get a lot of money so I have to wait. I think since I have the round looms, spool Loom, flower loom, even the new flower loom that hase four sizes and shapes, and of course the KB adjustable hat loom I may hold off on buying anymore. Maybe just get some really good yarn. I have a bunch of yarn, but very limited soft yarns. I have to use the stuff I have I guess to practice. my good ones are tge chunky yarns from thick and quick LB line and I have some LB homespun too. I just don’t have that 100% wool but do have it in the LB ones its a blend. So we’ll see.

        • Denise Canela February 4, 2017 at 4:07 pm

Gina, you’d be surprised how well inexpensive yarn works. I do my best not to get too fancy with the yarn on my project. Most (not all) are made with inexpensive yarn.

          • Gina February 9, 2017 at 9:42 pm

Yesterday I went to my local Ocean State Job Lot store and they had big yarn sale. I purchased many skiens of Martha Stewarts Babys First yarn in two pink shades not sure size maybe 4 or 5 and they were $3 versus 8 & akso two skiens of LB organic cotton in Olive and that wad 3.50 compared to $8. Plus, I think one or all of these may be discontinued, but very soft. I will return to buy more of the LB one since it is very nice, soft, beautiful color and make maybe afgan. For $3 and you are saving over 5+ dollars it is worth it. They had a lot of nice Pateon yarn I think that was name plus it wad two varigated types. So if any readers know this store and have one local I would check out the supplies they have.
