Headband Scarf Pattern Video on an Extra Large Round Loom

Loom Knit Headband Scarf on a Circular Loom

Headband Scarf Loom knit Pattern

The headband scarf pattern is an experiment I’m hoping you guys can appreciate. It’s the solution to those bad hair days without needing to resort to the messy bun look. It’s an ear warmer attached to an open hat – but it’s not a cap. I know it’s all sounds crazy. Well you get you chance to let me know what you think by adding your questions and comments on the bottom of the page.

There are decreases but not to worry they’re not difficult at all because as always there is a step by step video for beginners and us visual learners.

Pattern Notes:

The pattern is pretty simple once you get the hang of the decreases. Look for the pattern notes for the technique. Stitches needed are: U-wrap (UW) , e-Wrap, Purl

Sorry my message was not clear by far. One of your readers suggested somethin regarding her grankids wearing it backwards and she gave a name for the type of hat of donething is she tweaked your pattern. So I was just curious as to what that was what type of hat it would be I know she mentioned something about some decreases and things like that. As for stuff on the other side I think I might have mentioned the wrong thing I was asking you they had sent me something I can’t remember what it was and it was something about the amount of pigs and things like that I can’t remember exactly but it had nothing to do with anything or helping me do the pattern. I think I mentioned the green headband because you are post from that person that mention that other type of hat also spoke about a button or somebody said something about a button and that pattern that I think has one but it doesn’t really clearly stated so I wouldn’t even know how to do that like add a button to a headband to secure it in the back and that could be the question I asked or meant to sorry. And the grey hat might have been the pattern from KB I was talking about not yours and that could be what I was asking so disregard my stupid comment I apologize and hopefully and if so I’ll be more clear and hopefully this one will be more clear. I definitely look forward to the year and I am citing your website all over the place wherever I can I’m even talking about you at my son’s karate school how people could check you out and everything even if they want to learn a basic Stitch or a beautiful pattern Stitch and use it for whatever they want to make so you’re constantly involved in my communications about it loom knitting.

Hey Gina – sorry I might have read your question wrong. Sometimes I’m reading this stuff VERY late at night. The mind is messy. Thank you for sharing my site – I soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo appreciate it. You are ALWAYS so super sweet. Big Hugs Friend ! Oh and bty- the item is called a balaclava

  2. Sharon Young January 15, 2017 at 7:54 pm

Denise, Kathy Norris wrote another book on Liesure Arts Oval Looms, “Oval Looms Knit Collection”. I think it was just published. I got mine thru Amazon. It mostly baby patterns. I really like these looms also and the patterns.

    • Denise Canela January 15, 2017 at 11:44 pm

I love Kathy Norris – she is AWESOME- will look into the book. Thanks !

  3. Debbi January 15, 2017 at 3:39 am

Hi Denise. Great pattern, easy to do. Had my grandkids try it on and they liked alot. They were however playing around which gave me an idea for you, and us viewers/students. Kids put it on up side down and had it on like a balaclava (sp?) I am sure with a few tweaks to your pattern you could come up with a pattern to bring back the decreases, back to knitting in the full found, close it like a normal hat and Voila, a whole new hat. Just a thought. Thanks for sharing all your patterns and videos. Refer and re-refer to them often.
All the best for the new year. Wish I was down in Florida like you, all this white stuff is becoming cumbersome already. LOL

    • Denise Canela January 15, 2017 at 9:46 am

Debbi – kids are just soooooooo funny. What a GREAT idea. Love love love it! THANKS for sharing – I learned a new word and a put another project on my list. Big hugs for you and the grands!

    • Gina January 16, 2017 at 7:47 am

I am not sure what that new word is in terms of what kind of hat. Can you explain a bit? I am so trying to look into doing headband on KB site its so pretty. It is a light green and it does not say how to close back or what to do. I clicked on.patterns under the type of loom which is my new KBHL but I see so many listings, but for my loom not many. Even most hats are on AIO OR ZIPPY so any ideas? I did email Denise, but I am not sure if i sent that to her of response they sent me regarding another project. If I can just find a patteren I will be happy. Denise, can I do your mens gray cable on that in small gauge if so what is best set up (how many pegs for my 8 year old) and how do I mark loom? size I can probably follow there size chart but you use this loom so I guess just need to know set up, marking, the loom. I do want to know what project is being mentioned above

      • Denise Canela January 16, 2017 at 9:35 pm

Gina – I can’t respond for patterns on the KB site. I’m a bit confused by your questions and will do my best to answer. My gray cable hat pattern was done a small gauge loom – the video shows how to mark the loom – the pattern on the post and the video will fit an 8 year old perfectly.

  4. Ginger January 11, 2017 at 4:06 pm

Hi Denise–I love this pattern! I can actually see myself wearing a hat when it’s cold now. My hair is waist-to-hip length, and wearing a knitted hat is a nuisance due to static generated when pulling the hat off. If I wear my hair in a bun or ponytail to reduce static, I can’t get the hat to stay on because hhey get in the way. Messy bun hats are a nice iidea, but impractical for one with as much hair as I’ve got. This scarf-hat, on the other hand, is ideal! I can wrat it like a headband, pulling my hair or ponytail over the brim in the back, and even a bun won’t get in the way! Its awesome, I tell you!

It’s also really easy to make. If I could point out couple of things:
    * it’d be nice if the instructions for the brim indicated to use u-wrap for the entire brim. I u-wraspped the first row, as instructed, then e-wrapped the remaining 15 rows because I dfont like u-wrapping, and it didn’t specifically state to u-wrap. My hat still turned out fine, just the brim isn’t as snug as I’d like it to be, though it may be perfect for someone else.
    * In the video, you switch to two strands of yarn after knitting the brim, but you don’t indicate that in the pattern. I used a chunky yarn, and it turned out just fine, but I would’ve been a little disappointed in the result otherwise, if I hadn’t watched the video first. I’m an advanced loom knitter, so I don’t often watch the videos anymore, and there may be others, beginners and advanced, who try the written instructions first.

Other than that, everything was great, and, as I’ve said, I absolutely adore this hat! I’m hoping its available on patreon (I’ve temporarily lost desktop internet access until I can get a laptop because my desktop is beyond old and can’t understand what the internet is saying anymore) when I can get back in to print the patterns you share with us.

Keep up the good work! I’m glad you’re out there creating for us, because my imagination doesn’t create these kind if things. 🙂

    • Denise Canela January 11, 2017 at 10:30 pm

Thank YOU Ginger – Yes, you’re right I sure did need to add a few more lines to the written pattern. So glad you like it !!!

  5. Mariealena D'Agostino January 5, 2017 at 8:50 pm

Thank you! I sent you an email late last night. Please let me know if you received it. Again, you’re an angel!

  6. Mariealena D'Agostino January 4, 2017 at 1:24 pm

    Hi Denise,

Happy Holidays to you. I just started knitting, and I’m finding your videos very instructional and easy to follow. I am using a round loom. I have a particular hat that I would like to make, and I think that it is possible on a loom. I’m wondering if I could send you a picture of it, and if you could tell me how to do it. It’s the brim that I’m most concerned about. It looks similar to a sun hat, only it’s wavy and a bit shorter. Is there an email address at which I can send you this image? Any help that you can offer me would be greatly appreciated. All of the patterns that are available are for crocheting needles and that I do not know how to do!
    Thank you!

I got you book on 10 sts and don’t understand the cast on for the 4 versions, what is the first st around to make your first loop to start is it retap then you can start doing the true st???

    • Janet December 30, 2016 at 11:41 am

      That’s suppose to say ewrap

    • Denise Canela December 30, 2016 at 6:43 pm

Janet – I believe you have 2 separate questions here. In the stitch book – I do not give you an exact cast-on because a stitch pattern does not dictate the cast-on – the project does and I have no idea what project you will be doing with the stitch pattern – a hat – a blanket – socks. Here for this pattern you will be using the Uwrap for the cast-on.

  8. Justina December 29, 2016 at 5:25 pm

Thank you for another great pattern! I enjoy your website over all the others because you explain techniques the way I can understand 🙂 Do you have any easy patterns to make fingerless gloves?

    • Denise Canela December 30, 2016 at 9:41 am

Hi Justina – thanks for asking. My current pattern does include 2 different stitches but I think the fact that the post includes a video does make it easy enough even for a beginner. Try it – let me know if you have any question – Click HERE

      • Justina January 5, 2017 at 1:31 am

Hi Denise, I’ve finished the headband scarf and the gloves but I can’t find where to post the pictures from my phone or iPad. Also I’ve purchased a few of the Cindwood looms after your review! Super excited to check them out! ? P.s do you have a video or pattern for sale on the chevron or zigzag stitch?

        • Denise Canela January 5, 2017 at 11:12 pm

Hi Justina – you can post pics on Facebook or email them to me at denise@loomahat.com. And thanks for asking but I don’t have a pattern or video for those stitches yet.

  9. Dee December 26, 2016 at 7:19 pm

Omg I just made one! It’s adorable and it is so easy once u get the hang of it! Thank you Denise!!

    • Denise Canela December 27, 2016 at 1:21 pm

      You are VERY welcome Dee!

  10. Amy December 25, 2016 at 11:30 pm

Thank you for another idea and easy to follow video. Do you think the thinner brim would be more apt to slide back on your head than the thicker brim? I have been waiting for a pattern for something like this. I get ideas in my head but I cant put it together. you do amazing.

    • Denise Canela December 26, 2016 at 5:50 pm

Thank you Amy – the one with the smaller band was made on a loom and tends be more fitted.

  11. Candice December 25, 2016 at 1:44 pm

Merry Christmas, Denise. This looks great. The decreasing maybe a little tricky for me. But I can already think of some friends to make this for. Thanks for all your great projects. I’m still pretty much of a newbie who or what is Patreon?

    • Denise Canela December 25, 2016 at 4:34 pm

Thank you Candice – Merry Merry Christmas !!! Try the decreases – YOU CAN DO IT !!!!!!!

  12. Gina December 25, 2016 at 10:52 am

She is only 8 and got that new awesome 6 piece flower loom. Possiblities are pretty awesome. So we will be learning to knit on our looms together. So thanks for new pattern.
