Round-Loom Round Loom: 100 Projects with Free Patterns

100 FREE Round Loom Knitting Projects by 2014  is certainly a labor of love. Because I know I can’t do it alone I am asking for help from other Loomers . This will allow me to give you folks cool easy projects  and  introduce or reintroduce you to great sites and awesome loom knitters.

Here is the story behind the challenge. I was teaching a beginners Round Loom knitting class during a warm South Florida weekend. One of the ladies asked me if she should spend her money buying more round looms. What kind of stuff could she make.  I thought about all the things can be made on a round loom. A simple  knit hat, scarves,  bracelets, umbrella holders, ties and belts can be made using circular looms. She was shocked to discover that not all the finished work had to be round. You can get a square from a circle. I think a kinder-gardener would freak-out if you told them.  A square peg in the round hole. Well let’s not get distracted with that subject..

In the modern world, credit cards have become an essential part of our lives. We use them to purchase goods and services from all around the world, as well as pay for things in person as a form of payment. In this article we will discuss how you can use credit card dumps in your business, whether it is legal or not! Credit card dumps from dumps.to are one of the most popular methods for stealing credit cards. These breaches have made it easy to steal credit card information from unsuspecting victims. In this blog post, we will discuss how you can use credit card dumps in your business for profit.

I told her there was an endless list of projects that could be made when you consider all the sizes and brands of looms available. All the different textures of yarn. My head went to spinning. Picture The Exorcist, no better yet don’t. I want you thinking pretty thoughts here.

Continuing with the story, my thoughts and ideas about patterns for circular loom knitting were running at a 100 miles an hour. I have mild ADD so for a few minutes I even forgot that she was standing right in front of me. I figured I should be able (along with a few friends), to come up with at least 100 circular loom knit projects with free patterns.

Some of the projects and/or patterns are mine, others I hope will be offered. A few will be included because I asked another Loomer for permission to share and he or she agreed. Several are included just because I REALLY liked them. If your work is here and you want it removed just email me denise@loomahat.com and I will take care of it immediately.

Click the picture for a link to the website and in some cases you may need to do a little search for the pattern. I hope you find something to take with you from this page and please leave the knitter that was nice enough to give their talents for FREE a nice Thank you comment on their website comment section and if you’d like you can come back and leave feedback about your experience here.

Loomahat Loom Knitting Pattern Store

Note about buying a loom:  If you  are new to loom knitting, got inspired and want to try making some of the projects on a round loom  then go Buy One ! There are several brands to consider. I use the Knifty Knitter brand. There is the Boye brand and the Darice. I find that there is little difference between them. The gauge, which is the space between one peg and the one next to it are almost the same on most of the plastic mass produced product. Unless you’re going to use a high-end, natural wood, hand-made loom, you won’t be able to tell the difference between most of the mayor brands. Just get one that fits your budget and don’t worry too much about the rest.

I will tell you that the most recognized and most widely used brand of looms is the Knifty Knitter.  I would safely say that more the 2/3 of the patterns you will find here were made with this loom in mind. If you plan to only own one set and want to get the most bang for your buck that is the name to remember.

I have put some hat patterns in this list, but just a few. You will find a lot more on a chart of free hat patterns I created. After all the name of the site is LoomaHat.com. I will update this list every time I find a new hat on the internet that includes a free pattern and will try to work on a hat pattern of my own at least once a month. I can’t make any promises with a husband, two kids and a dog everyday is a surprise.  I’m sure many of you can relate.

Some of My Favorite Books

I am listing just 3 of my favorite books here. I like them for different reasons. The first is a thin book but the content is really cool. All have easy and difficult projects. The good thin is that they are labeled accordingly. That makes choosing a pattern easy for beginners.

If you are a beginner browing through the pages of one of these book don’t get discourage if some seem almost impossible. Look up the stitch or term in Google or Youtube for help and remember that practice makes perfect.

Hi ! Very new to looming and having lots of fun making diff hats from your videos. Have made rookie mistakes for sure.
I looked at most of the questions above but didn’t see anyone ask this before. Is there a way to loom an afghan? My grandma made many and I never learned to crochet from her. I wondered if you could make squares and then tie/knit them together?
Thank you for your videos… they are excelled for a rookie like me.

    • Denise Canela May 18, 2020 at 11:59 am Reply

Hi GG, you can make a one piece afghan on a long loom or an afghan loom or you can knit squares and sew them together.

Hello Denise. I am trying to loom a beanie using the u wrap stitch. When making beanies with e wrap I used a 36 peg loom and the hats fit perfectly. Used the same loom with the u wrap and it made a child size hat. Question is was it the loom or the yarn? I used lion brand super bulky acrylic yarn for both hat stitches. The yarn seems to have no stretch using the u wrap stitch, is that normal?

    Denise,

I am trying to figure out what you mean by blocking in your shawl patttern. I have searched YouTube and your website but can’t find your reference. Could you please explain? I am hoping it has to do with the fact that the one edge curls.

I am a HUGE fan and all of my friends are wearing your Infinity Scarf and love it.

Hope to hear from you soon.

    Hello
I recently started looming again after my wife got me interested a few years back. I have enjoyed many of your helpful videos and got my wife to also learn from them. Now I am looking for a basic pattern or project for a shopping bag to replace the plastic store bags. I am interested in a lighter, thinner knitted cotton bag, maybe a net looking bag that I can roll several up to take to the store without looking like I am bringing a bedroll in. I am able to work on round or long looms and would love to learn new patterns doing this project. Thanks for any suggestions,

Denise, with the Celtic knot stitch I noticed it was on the width of the project. How, or can it, be turned to run the length of the project? I’m wanting to incorporate this stitch with Celtic cables for an Afghan.

    • Denise Canela December 17, 2018 at 2:20 pm Reply

HI Scott, I’ve been asked that question before and I sure would like to say yes – for you and for me but I have not had the time to test that. So Sorry. I will, I hope – to test it in 2019

What yarn do you use so that slipper socks will stay on and not stretch out?

    • Denise Canela October 2, 2018 at 5:20 pm Reply

Hi Shannon – it best to use a blend like an Acrylic/Wool – should be more acrylic then wool

    • Denise Canela April 2, 2017 at 10:16 am Reply

Hanlie – if you have a rectangular use that one because you won’t need to sew depending on the width of the loom. Remember that you have no limit on length – but the width of the loom will limit your width

    Hello (again) Ms.Denise!
I have 2 quick questions for you. The reason I’m asking you, is because you have never steered me wrong in any of your advise or suggestions. Not to mention your teaching methods are simply the best. Hands down.
    1. What loom do you like, and feel is the best, when making socks and booties of different sizes?
    2. Which brand of yarn(s) do you feel is the best and that you use the most in the majority of your projects?
Thank you, again, Denise. Happy Looming! (Teaching too!)?

    • Denise Canela May 13, 2016 at 8:42 pm Reply

Hi Michelle, FIRST Thanks for being soooooooo sweet – I so appreciate it!

OK – to your questions…. I wish the answer was that simple. I try (as much as possible) to use looms you guys use. Other then the Boye brand of looms which a really don’t like ( I did a review HERE ) I really like them all. I’m not big on loom knit socks for adults but I like kids booties. I think the biggest bang for your buck for socks would be KB because you can adjust the size. The shape of the peg is good for purling just don’t drop a stitch – that’s the bad side of those pegs.

As for Yarn – it depends on the project and the purpose. I do a lot of testing with Red Heart because of price. For charity I prefer acrylic blends. For gifts and stitch tutorials I like Caron Simply Soft. For video I will choose color, level of sheen and/or texture. In truth I have no favorites I like almost everything and anything at some point.

  32. Nancy February 8, 2016 at 6:12 pm Reply

I bought a set of Knifty Knitters looms for my 10 year old Granddaughter for Christmas.
We wanted to make a long winter scarf (not an infinity scarf). I looked everywhere for instruction on how to make a flat scarf on a round loom.
Directions are not clear. Diagrams seem to skip photos where we need help.
    Do you have any suggestions?

Thank you, I love this, can’t wait to begin loom knitting.

  34. Marilyn January 16, 2016 at 4:06 pm Reply

When working with 2strands of yarn, I cut a straw to 2-3 inches then thread the yarn through a large eye darning needle and push the needle through the straw, pull the yarn through, remove the needle, leaving the straw on your 2 strands of yarn. No more tangled yarn.

Only if you have loom clips where you can shorten the length : https://www.pinterest.com/pin/27936460164416861/

    • Tennille January 7, 2016 at 1:26 pm Reply

Do you mean fingerless wrist warmers? Yes. I just made some on the small blue round loom. Just cast on, use your favorite stitch to create the affect you prefer and continue for the length your want and end it. This was my first project ever using looms. I fished them yesterday, so it is safe to say I am a beginner. So shouldn’t be too hard. Hope this helped. Enjoy! Oh, I found a pattern on Punters so I can’t recommend one. Sorry

Hello. If you go to Bevscountrycottage.com, there’s a really cute pattern for a diaper cover. I have used this pattern to make diaper covers for both girls and boys. I usually make them to match the baby Kimono pattern I have, and people are just LOVING them! I hope this helps you.

What method can I use to avoid yarn tangles when I use 2 pieces of yarn when knitting on a round loom. The yarn twists and becomes tangled as I knit around the loom. Thank you for your suggestions.

    • Denise Canela August 4, 2015 at 9:33 am Reply

Kathy, you could try yarn sleeves. Click HERE . You can also try a different knit stitch that doesn’t twist like the Uwrap Click HERE

Hi, I am also new to loom knitting. My sister thought it would be nice for both of us to learn and share our experiences with each other, when ever we could get together. She went out and bought the long loom set of of 5. My question, can you use round loom patterns on the long looms?

    • Denise Canela June 13, 2015 at 10:58 am Reply

Hi Frida, the answer is: yes in some cases because you can just knit with 1 rake (one side) at a time. But some long looms don’t go completely around. In other words the pegs are only on the top and bottom, none on the sides, that can be a problem if the pattern is for a round project. Also, note the number of pegs. They should be at least close to the same. Being off by one or two pegs is not going to make a huge difference in most patterns.

Felíz día! I’m super-new to loom knitting & I LOVE your tutorials for the different stitches you use in your scarf videos I’ve seen ‘sew’ far (lol). While studying your tutorials, I stumbled upon a video on how to wear a “Dallas Dream” 3-button scarf. Have you seen this? This style would be perfect for mi madre, because of its versatility. I know I can accomplish this with the best looming teacher. 🙂 Preguntas: 1. What kind of yarn & how many rows would you suggest for mi mama, who is 5’0″? 2. What is your favorite source for cost-effective yarn & earthy looking buttons?
Can’t wait to try this project next! 🙂

I have just started use a loom and was wondering if anyone can give me some tips on how to make it easier to loop over the top? The yarn is loose when I wrap it and seem to be having a difficult time figuring this out. My thumb is getting sorer by the stitch and I keep breaking my yarn. Help!!!!

    • Denise Canela January 22, 2015 at 8:56 pm Reply

Pam what stitch are you using ? There are several versions of the Knit Stitch – if you are doing a Flat Knit Stitch that tends to make your knitting very tight. Maybe you should try the e-Wrap and see if that makes your knitting a bit looser. Here is a post that explains those different versions of the Knit: Click HERE

    Hi there,

I am super keen on sweater dresses, baby sweaters and the like.
I have created a pattern of my own, for a baby sweater, still busy with it and hoping it’ll work out. Am I expecting too much from myself? I feel like if it was that simple, someone else would have come up with a pattern by now.

Hi Sindie, sorry for the delay in responding I’ve been ill for a bit. Just trying to catch up.
As far as your question – yes, there are patterns for loom knit sweaters, adult and baby – their mostly in the loom knit books, on Etsy , Ravelry and other sites where you pay to download patterns. I haven’t seen a FREE pattern for a baby sweater yet.
