Yarn Project Organizer & Workbook Review and Giveaway

Yarn Project Organizer & Workbook by Kristen Mangus

Yarn Project Organizer & Workbook

I received the brand new Yarn Project Organizer & Workbook by Kristen Mangus from GoodKnit Kisses. For some of us nothing else needs to be said. But for those that need more information I have tried to break down for you. I will tell you whats included, how I used it, what I like best and what I would change. Lastly I will give  an overall rating of the book.

I will give 2 copies of the book, thanks to my Looma Sista Kristen. I am using Rafflecopter to randomly pick 2 winners. Find that all the way at the end of the post.

What’s Included:

Before I start detailing every section let me start by saying that having one of these book per calendar year would be a great idea. After reading the information below, I believe you will agree with me.

Yarn Project Organizer & Workbook

  • Project Pages: I so love these. Hard to break down in all the ways that I think this is a game changer. If you are a knitter this is invaluable for you. We all have that project that was put aside and now we have no idea about most of the basic information needed to finish. The solution is to complete the page, easily tear out the page put it in a page protector, attach it to your project. I used locking stitch markers
  • Project Notes: On the back side of the Project Pages is the project notes which includes a grid perfect for stitch patterns. They help give you a visual of how your stitches will stack.
  • Additional Project Notes: Where you can add more information. On the opposite side is a larger grid page.

  • Sales Logs: It a good tool for understanding which items sell best, where and when. This is helpful for creating a project schedule and determining where to spend your marketing dollars.

  • Gift Lists: Kristen added this section for you to keep track of your gift giving I like it as a project calendar. If you know your sister is giving birth in February, starting that project in January is a better idea then starting on you Christmas list. Next you might consider some manly washcloths with homemade soap as Valentine gifts for the hubby and then some potpourri filled Sachets for mom. I could go on for the rest of the year but I think you get it.

  • Donation Tracking: Charity is so important to me and to many knitters. Having information the guideline readily accessible as you work your project is very valuable. Knowing the number of items and receipts is necessary if you itemize your deductions.

  • Tool Inventory: This one is simple – if you don’t know what you have you spend money buying it again.  This is the only section of the book – I personally would not use.

What Do I Like Best

This one was a bit difficult for me because I love the Project Pages and the Gift Giving List the most. I am currently using the Project Pages the most so if I had to pick only one, that would be it.

What Would I Change

The only thing on my wish list is for the book to be spiral but that is not a game changer for me personally because the ability to tear-out pages is much more important.

Overall Rating

stars

Overall I believe this workbook to be a worthwhile expense. It is extremely well thought-out. There are parts of it that I would not have thought but now I’m so glad it’s included like the Gift Giving List. Just the charitable log if kept up would pay for the cost of buying of the book.

I would knit and work on a specific project.

  2. Katrina M Johnson January 30, 2019 at 5:21 pm

This would help keep me a little more organized…especially when I go back to old projects!! And help figure out how many looms I have in different sizes & guages…I’m always questioning if I have one that will work for a project

  3. Iris jusinno January 29, 2019 at 7:17 pm

This would be so awesome if I were to win. God knows I need organization in my life.

  4. McCine Mendiola-Ramsey January 29, 2019 at 6:51 pm

This organizer would be a lifesaver and clutter buster! I keep my yarn labels as I finish skeins so I can reference any info I may need later. But storing everything in a giant scrapbooking bag and bins has been rough since if I don’t open a section or look in a bin I don’t know what I should be using or needing. This book would help me organize the chaos and hopefully help me finish projects a tad bit quicker! 🙂

  5. McCine Mendiola-Ramsey January 29, 2019 at 6:49 pm

I’d use this to keep track of all my projects, tools and materials. Currently storing everything in a scrapbooking bag and some bins. this would help me get organized better and in turn finish more projects!

  6. Gail Jernigan January 29, 2019 at 4:51 pm

Love the idea of putting the project pages in a 3-ring binder via a page protector.

  7. Gail Jernigan January 29, 2019 at 4:48 pm

I love the idea of the project pages and placing them in a 3-ring binder with page protector!

  8. Gail Jernigan January 29, 2019 at 4:46 pm

Wow! Sounds like a great book! Thanks, Denise! I look forward to using the project pages, and I especially like your idea of putting the project page in a page protector and filing them in a 3-ring binder!

  9. Dee Thompson January 28, 2019 at 11:49 am

I’m sure I would use the contents of this giveaway as I have many looms and need to get going on them. I believe this would get me motivated. TIA

  10. Kate E. January 28, 2019 at 11:48 am

Looks great! I have planned to put something like this together in a binder, but this would be much easier.

  11. Ed Ro January 27, 2019 at 2:41 pm

I recently tried loom knitting and love it, not much experience and always looking for help, I enjoy your videos and found them very helpful…..

  12. Lisa J Cowell January 27, 2019 at 1:27 am

I do every type of craft imaginable. So many times I design a project, sketch it out on scrap paper, lay it on my desk and it gets lost. This book would be so helpful with keeping track of WIP or future projects. I sell on Etsy, and many items come up missing in my shop when someone else messes with the stock, so the inventory feature would work for this problem.

  13. Labeba January 26, 2019 at 8:32 am

I would love to make Arabic review about this workbook

  14. Cara White January 26, 2019 at 6:09 am

I cannot even begin to describe how many books, looms, needles, and crochet hooks I’ve been getting!!! And I’ve admitted to the world I am a yarn addict– I have to check out the yarn selection in whatever store I go to to see if there’s a sale, something I haven’t seen before, etc. This book would be amazing to have as an addition and I’m adding it to my wishlist on Amazon already. I love all the little touches in this book that allow you to make it so personalized. I couldn’t tell you how many notebooks are scattered around my house (I do projects everywhere lol) where I’ve wrote notes down or had to work and rework an idea until I got the pattern to be what I wanted. It’s just really an amazing thing how many different ways this particular book can help with projects, as opposed to being just another direction booklet on a specific thing.

  15. Lisa Stuthard January 26, 2019 at 1:30 am

I would love to win, i so so need the project pages and gift pages, i have had to frog so many projects because things have got busy and I’ve had to put the project away for awhile, then when i come back to it i am at a total loss as to what pattern i was using, what stitches and so on, and the gift pages would help as i have many many niece’s and nephews.

  16. Erica January 25, 2019 at 10:34 pm

This book will save my knitting life! I will save my poor notebooks for journaling. This workbook will increase my productivity as well, yay!

  17. Melissa January 25, 2019 at 9:45 pm

This is such a great idea! I would totally agree that the project pages would be my favorite!

  18. Pamela Norwood January 25, 2019 at 9:40 pm

    Sounds amazing!!! Thank you!

  19. Janet January 25, 2019 at 6:35 pm

I would probably gift it to my daughter. My daughter loves to organize. She is a talented knitter too. She could use really use it. She often creates knitted projects to charity or church. She has a simple online shop where she features hats, dishcloths and other. I on the other hand, am a beginner at knitting. I have a few containers of yarn. I’m slowly collecting supplies. Knitting is supposed to lower blood pressure and relax you. I’m enjoying it. I love watching your videos on YouTube. I learn best watching. Thank you.

    • Denise Canela January 25, 2019 at 8:21 pm

Thank YOU Janet! Give us a link to your daughter’s online store.

  20. Jesslyn January 25, 2019 at 3:47 pm

I’m an architecture student who loves knitting, but when i get busy i often forget my WIP projects. I think the book will be very helpful for me since i also want to start selling my work.
Thankyou Denise for reviewing that awesome book and also the giveaway oppotunity!

  21. Dominik Paulsen January 25, 2019 at 2:36 pm

    WOW !
What a great idea, since I’ve picked up a loom I almost do not use my knitting needles
anymore I try to convert most of my projects to my looms….and that’s all because you make your projects so easy to follow and you’re a great teacher….but what ‘s the best thing in this give away is for all your subscribers !!! thank you so much…peace fom Canada…..

  22. Nicole Acuna January 25, 2019 at 1:38 pm

I’m so disorganized this would really help me keep everything organized so I can get more done 🙂

  23. Missy Nedbalek January 25, 2019 at 12:54 pm

I finally found where to submit my comment. I hope I still qualify for the raffle I would LOVE to get this book. I’m holding off just keeping my fingers crossed that I win before purchasing because I want/need this sooo bad. Thank you for the review, you are awesome. I just started looming 2 weeks ago after stumbling onto one of your videos. I saw how easy it was and have gone crazy since. Thank you for your reviews and training.

    • Denise Canela January 25, 2019 at 8:27 pm

Wait did you say 2 weeks? WELCOME Missy !!!!! Try the Garter Stitch Scarf – one of my favorite patterns for beginners 🙂

  24. Cheryl Goodnight January 25, 2019 at 12:54 pm

This book sounds wonderful. I would use this book to track my projects since I always have more than one project going at a time. To know where you left off and all the details would be wonderful. Thank you for the chance to win.

  25. Natasha M. Warrick January 25, 2019 at 10:41 am

I would use this book for my new adventure in Loom knitting and keeping track of new patterns I try, plus ones that I may not finish before starting another.

  26. Karen Strachan January 25, 2019 at 9:56 am

This sound as like a great book. The charity section would be helpful as I make things for nursing home residents and to take to our local cancer treatment center.

    • Denise Canela January 25, 2019 at 8:28 pm

Awesome Karen ! I love love love a giver !!!

  27. Raquel Perea January 25, 2019 at 8:52 am

This book sounds very useful. I have so many WIPs and often misplace my hook and when I pick it back up I have no idea whahook sisei used making it difficult to compete. This book will help my stay organized with my WIPs.

  28. Katrina Price January 25, 2019 at 8:24 am

Thank you for this chance! New to this and this would help me keep up with everything.

  29. Pam Brush January 25, 2019 at 1:14 am

This would be such an awesome way to get all my looming supplies organized. Right now I have some here, some over there, some upstairs… and no idea what yarn I have. Love the idea of attaching yarn label to the project page. I always think I’m going to remember… but I don’t

  30. Camille Astrid Marissal January 24, 2019 at 10:56 pm

I think this book is an amazing idea! I’m usually so pressed to have done to start a new project that I never wrote anything… Maybe in having a “real” book to write it down will help me !

  31. Katty January 24, 2019 at 10:35 pm

I’ve been trying to make something like this on my own as an excel spreadsheet but can’t get it organized enough or always have something extra to add. Looks so cool!

  32. Christine January 24, 2019 at 10:30 pm

Thanks for the review Denise! I chuckled to myself when you mentioned using a notebook to log patterns and projects because that’s what I do – but they are like 3 or 4 working notebooks! ? I could use some streamlining for sure and it sounds like this is the ticket on so many levels!

  33. Falana January 24, 2019 at 10:23 pm

This would be so helpful for me. I have actually been creating my own style to try to keep track of things I’m loom knitting and crocheting. This would be super!

  34. Lori Pennington-Joyner January 24, 2019 at 10:23 pm

Thank you for sharing your personal experience. Thank you for this giveaway opportunity. And most importantly thank you for sharing your gifts and talents.

  35. Holly W January 24, 2019 at 9:25 pm

I would love this book to organize my Auxiliary knitting and crochet, plus I am new to loom knitting and would use it to organize ideas and projects I want to learn/ make.

  36. Shelia Beltran January 24, 2019 at 9:22 pm

This is great. I love being organized and this is a great way to do that. Beats the notes in all the note books.
The book will be very helpfu. l

  37. Sue D January 24, 2019 at 9:18 pm

I like your idea of using the project pages, adding the yarn label and notes, keeping it with your project until done and then putting it into a binder.

  38. Nikki Hades January 24, 2019 at 9:04 pm

Looks awesome! I might buy one as a gift for an avid knitter/crocheter I am friends with!

  39. Lene January 24, 2019 at 8:44 pm

Oh, this looks great! I’d most like to use this for two things – keeping track of projects and all the necessary info for each, and to keep track of gifts I’m making. It looks perfect for both those uses!

  40. Chyra Reynolds January 24, 2019 at 8:01 pm

I just started looming and already see the disorganization. I think it’s perfect timing to get organized.

  41. Mary January 24, 2019 at 7:49 pm

I would use this to help inventory my yarn stash, knitting needles, and looms. Having a system to record donations and the guidelines for each organization is a great idea~

  42. Christine January 24, 2019 at 6:46 pm

This organizer looks like it would help corral and organized all of my project notes and patterns. A gallon zip baggie is not cutting it anymore. I learned how to loom using your videos. I love each tutorial you put out.

  43. Cherie Johnston January 24, 2019 at 6:42 pm

THANKS for doing this video Denise! Now I really need this book because I know it will give me all the Marie Kondo style joy! Well done on a great book as well Kristen! ❤️

    • Denise Canela January 25, 2019 at 9:03 am

Cherie – you crack me up girl!

  44. Brooke L. January 24, 2019 at 6:29 pm

I would love to use this book for my loom knitting, to organize my looms.

  45. Jen B January 24, 2019 at 5:31 pm

    I NEED the inventory sheets!!!

  46. Cloe January 24, 2019 at 4:54 pm

I think this book would help me out with the project notes as I always write things down on millions of different paper.

  47. Gail Pharoah January 24, 2019 at 4:49 pm

I would use this workbook to organize my projects and also to help with those WIP which I have forgotten how to complete! I have two of those on the go right now and they are both for charity. I really need to figure out how to complete them, and this work would have been so helpful!

  48. Donna Colleton January 24, 2019 at 4:10 pm

I create as I go all the time and change patterns if I like them I can not recreate them because I forget to write the changes down. God I need this book

  49. Carol Maple January 24, 2019 at 3:23 pm

I have a bad habit of not keeping track of the yarn that I use for projects. I usually keep the labels, but it would be great to attach them to the project page.

  50. Brittany January 24, 2019 at 3:03 pm

This is a awesome idea and would help me keep track of what I am doing with my projects.

  51. cenk January 24, 2019 at 2:55 pm

good luck all the participants , I wish someone as a beginner lever knitter / loomer would win.

  52. Tana Elphicke January 24, 2019 at 1:59 pm

Thank you Loomahat for great videos.

    Sincerely
    Tana

  53. Lani Winkler January 24, 2019 at 1:58 pm

This seems to be a great book as long as it just doesn’t sit on a shelf with a good intention. I completely loved the video because you gave suggestions that most people wouldn’t thing of using it for. It seems it would be great for any yarn crafter.

    • Denise Canela January 24, 2019 at 4:31 pm

Lani – you crack me up !

  54. Nancy Calderon January 24, 2019 at 1:55 pm

This book sounds so awesome. Love the projects list and so helpful to keep organized. I’ve been a Loom A Hat fan from the very beginning of learning how to loom knit. You are fantastic.

  55. Amanda May January 24, 2019 at 1:52 pm

Love everything you, and GoodKnitKisses, do. It is so nice of you both to do this for us. Thank you for the chance. x

  56. Kit Loring January 24, 2019 at 1:12 pm

I watched your review this morning and can’t wait to get the book! Unfortunately using both Chrome and Internet explorer, I can’t put a comment in the contest box….

  57. Joy January 24, 2019 at 1:09 pm

I am a new loom knitter. I appreciate your site. I use this site exclusively. To date I have made 4 hats. Arthritis in my left hand makes knitting very painful. A friend suggested look knitting. I checked out a lot of sites to help me. There are a lot of sites but this is my favorite. Thank you for all your help! I know this is a lot of work. Your time and talent is very appreciated. Thank you again. Joy

  58. Amanda Reimer January 24, 2019 at 12:58 pm

I so need this! I am forever starting something and then have to put it down for whatever reason not able to pick it up for a month or two and then try and remember where I left off. Lol frustrating!

  59. Marissa Velasquez January 24, 2019 at 12:54 pm

I would use it for organizing my projects and to keep track of gifts I’ve made and my lift of gifts to make.

  60. Kim January 24, 2019 at 12:53 pm

This sounds wonderful. I could really use some help getting organized. I’m new to loom knitting and right now it’s all a mess.

  61. Laura H. January 24, 2019 at 12:22 pm

This book sounds great. I have multiple notebooks and a binder floating around but could use the better organization.

  62. Robyn R January 24, 2019 at 12:11 pm

I love all your videos and reviews!

  63. Kathy Ford Hilderbrand January 24, 2019 at 12:03 pm

Love listening to your review on YouTube. I was on fence about buying this book but after listening to some key points you brought up about this book I am going for it. Sounds like something that will definitely benefit me. Thank you for doing a contest and here is me crossing my fingers for luck for me to win!

  64. Manar January 24, 2019 at 11:55 am

I’d love to have it.. thanks for the opportunity

  65. Arlene Medder January 24, 2019 at 11:54 am

If this is a duplicate comment, I apologize. I don’t see the one I submitted earlier.

I can see the project pages being really helpful. I often make changes and I’ve started designing my own projects, and having the information organized and in a book would be much better than scraps of paper tucked into my reference book.

  66. Barb Rigdon January 24, 2019 at 11:41 am

I would use this product to keep track of my projects I’m currently working on and the next future projects. At the same time staying more organized.

  67. Jodella Overman January 24, 2019 at 11:40 am

I really like this book is broken down. I also like it’s not sponsored, because it’s your true review of the book. Best part is who dont need reminders! Love that you can tear out and write your patterns and how much you really used of yarn for the pattern. Takes guess work out and able to use left over yarn knowing if I have enough for my project!

  68. Arlene Medder January 24, 2019 at 11:28 am

I’d use to track the changes I made in patterns. Sometimes I don’t have the same yarn the designer use, or my gauge is different enough I need to do some math to get the project to work. Something like this would probably work better than scraps of paper used as a bookmark in the pattern book.

  69. Jacqueline Brashear January 24, 2019 at 11:26 am

I enjoy most all your projects. I think this is what I need.in my life. I have recommended you to a lot of my friends. You are a very good teacher.

  70. Barbara Bloominger January 24, 2019 at 11:20 am

I am an avid crocheter and have many projects going at the same time. This would definitely be a big help in helping me keep tabs of where I left off. I enjoyed your video. Thanks

  71. Sheila Morris January 24, 2019 at 11:13 am

Would love to have something like this, I use a note pad that is all the time disappearing.

  72. Kathryn Jones January 24, 2019 at 11:13 am

I don’t think I would use ALL the pages, but like you, I’m sure I will several that will be invaluable! Had no idea that this book was like this – will look into it!
Thank YOU so much for your reviews – you ROCK!

  73. Angela Knisely-Marpole January 24, 2019 at 10:59 am

Wow, what a brillaint book – I am forever forgetting how I did projects and what I used 🙂 Thanks Denise for the giveaway

  74. Doris Sanders January 24, 2019 at 10:57 am

I need all the help I can get when it comes to organization! I would use this to log the items I’ve given away. I would most definitely use the project pages to keep track of all projects. I’m the worst at remembering what I was doing!

  75. Peggy S Overbey January 24, 2019 at 10:50 am

I have a habit of forgetting where I left off with a project or what yarn I used so project pages would be great!

  76. Claudia Vick January 24, 2019 at 10:47 am

I have learned so much from you ? thank you so much!

  77. Catherine Keller January 24, 2019 at 10:46 am

I think I need something to better organize what I want to make! In the middle of looming something, I think of about three other things I want to make – what yarn I want to use, what stitches, etc. I think a book like this would help me get more organized!

  78. Katie January 24, 2019 at 10:43 am

You are the only loom knitter I consistently follow on YouTube. Your videos are so helpful!

  79. Kelly Ruth January 24, 2019 at 10:40 am

Wow! Very cool book idea! I always feel so unorganized with my projects too

  80. cindi norris January 24, 2019 at 10:15 am

    thank you.?❤

  81. Roxanne Raiche January 24, 2019 at 10:13 am

I love learning new projects and about differant types of yarn i watch every video you do.

  82. Nancy Anderson January 24, 2019 at 10:10 am

Great way to organize projects. I need organization in my life and this would be a big help! Love your videos. You are a great teacher!

  83. Meghann Metz January 24, 2019 at 10:09 am

Oh how this would be fantabulous!! I have like 10 little notepads laying around! I can never find what i am looking for!! Would elimunate the mess of papers and notebooks! Such a wonderful item. Kristen is amazing as are you! Love all the work you put into this.

  84. Ann Caputo January 24, 2019 at 10:08 am

FYI – I left a comment but it’s not showing in the list above. Don’t know what the problem is. Sorry.

    • Denise Canela January 24, 2019 at 10:24 am

Hi Ann – I review comments before they are published. I have a plugin that sweeps for spam I’m the second “sweeper” 🙂

      • Anonymous January 24, 2019 at 10:30 am

  91. Jennifer January 24, 2019 at 9:56 am

How gracious! I appreciate all you do.

  92. Ann Caputo January 24, 2019 at 9:54 am

This workbook looks fabulous! I inherited a lot of yarn, and would love to get it inventoried. I also gift my work, so having a list of previous gifts would ensure I don’t duplicate gifts. Finally, the project pages would be enormously helpful as I usually have 5 or 6 projects going at any one time. Thank you Denise for your wonderful videos, and this opportunity.

  93. Fabienne Fappani January 24, 2019 at 9:41 am

    Bonjour.
Je débute dans l’utilisation du Loom, et ça va rendre un grand service pour ne pas me tromper.
    Merci beaucoup.

  94. Leigh January 24, 2019 at 9:38 am

Oh my gosh! This is just the thing to motivate me to get organized. I have been meaning to do all of these things but just wasn’t sure where to begin. This book sounds amazing!
    P. S. If Denise reccomends it, it becomes a “must have” in my opinion. 🙂

I think that this is an awesome idea! Sure, I could try to keep all this information straight on my own….but the way this book is broken down looks way more organized and easier than what I would do!!

I’d love to have a book like this! Thank you for the opportunity!

  97. Tammy January 24, 2019 at 9:34 am

I would use this book to organize many of my projects that I have started and not finished.

I think this is awesome to get organized and continue with the knitting journey whether you’re very experienced or not. Thanks for sharing it and for the giveaway opportunity! 🙂

Oh my gosh! This book sounds amazing! It’ll help me finally get organized. I have been meaning to do all of the workbook ideas but didn’t know where to start. Just the motivation I need!

Wow! This would be soooo helpful to help me get organized and to stay on track on my projects.

Just FYI…I couldn’t get your entry thing to work on Chrome this morning…so I used Internet Explorer. It never did load on Chrome…sorry I’ll be offline most of the day, but thought you might want to check it….just in case it’s not just me.

It sounds and looks like I could use this book to get a little more organized with my projects and maybe even part of my craft room. The inventory pages seem useful, and also the idea of putting a project page with a project your working on…especially since I sometimes put one down and don’t pick it back up for awhile. LOL! Love to win a copy!

What a wonderful reference to have! I teach loom knitting and so many times someone will ask me a question on their project and I don’t know the answer because I don’t remember what pattern they are using. I will be purchasing this for sure.

This is an awesome idea! Organization is such a great goal, yet not always easy to do!

This sounds like an awesome book to have. Thank you Good Knit Kisses for donating the books for the giveaway and thank you LoomaHat for the review. Very well done!

This book definitely sounds like a game changer! Having 7 grandbabies I loom knit and crochet projects for, this book would be a fantastic addition to my knitting and crochet “stash”. I have a regular calendar but with 2 other people in the house that write into on it, reading my info is a joke. This book would be mine and mine alone. What a perfect idea!

  108. Jessica January 24, 2019 at 8:50 am

That’s such an awesome workbook to have! I’m new to loom knitting and have been watching all your videos to create things and it would be awesome to have a workbook to write down all the details of the project so I don’t forget any steps!

  109. Jeanne Spaulding January 24, 2019 at 8:50 am

I have Loom Knitted hats, scarfs, cover for my Cricut and one pair of fingerless gloves. I think this book would help me to get back to it and get my stash of knitting/crochet stuff organized

What a great way to organize your projects!!! I would use it for all my yarns inherited from my late mom. Sadly, she left many projects behind with no way of finishing them because of misplaced patterns but this is definitely a great solution! TFS
