I posted a comment before but for some reason it isn’t showing up. I want to thank you so much for all the videos. I have been cranking out scarves and hats for the homeless here in Boston. Both of my children walk by many of them on their way to and from work, so I thought with winter coming soon that the warmth would be needed. Your videos made the work so easy! In just a couple of months I have made over five hats and the same number of scarves to give away!
It was so nice to see you in this video. It is good to put a face to your hands and voice. Thank you so much for making loom knitting a project I can do. I am awful at counting stitches, so knitting and crocheting always ended up all catywonkas, but not with loom knitting. (though my scarves are still curling inward, but practice, practice, practice will fix that)
    Thank you again!

P.S. Sorry, should have put this in the above comment. I also made the rubber band cover for my hook, and it really helps my grip. Made one for the neighbor/friend who suggested looming to me, as a ‘thank you’. She asked where I learned, and just said, ‘loomahat.com’.

  3. Pat November 30, 2015 at 5:53 pm

    THANKS, Denise,

I was telling my neighbor that I cannot knit, because of an injury to my right thumb, which means that I barely have any grasp. Fortunately, I CAN type, as I can make the up and down motion, hitting the space bar. She asked if I had tried loom knitting, that she’d loan me her loom and teach me. Well, I thought, ‘I bet there’s something about it online’, and came across your instructions on YouTube for the hat with the brim. It was soooo easy to follow. Watched it entirely, then went on an orgy of looking at many other of the videos with the different hints, stitches, etc. Tried my friend’s loom, and YES, I can do it! So asked for an early Christmas gift from my daughter, who was thrilled, that I actually wanted (rather than NEEDED) something, and let me get supplies (she was cooking for Thanksgiving for 2 consecutive days. Got some neon orange yarn with a reflective thread in it, and following your very clear instructions, JUST FINISHED MY FIRST HAT, for my grandson! My daughter couldn’t believe I finished it so fast!

Yes, I have another grandson, kids, friends, thinking about 2 dog sweaters, so better stop typing and start looming again! Oh, I’m 70, and yes, still demand of myself that I learn something new every day!! And as Seattle has a homeless problem, I WILL make some for charity, also.

I cannot thank you enough! Keep up the good work!

    • Denise Canela November 30, 2015 at 7:48 pm

Pat – You comment has TOTALLY made my year ! You are Super Sweet and I can’t thank you enough for taking of your precious time to leave me this AWESOME note. THANK YOU – THANK YOU – THANK YOU. and I’m especially happy to hear that you’re loom knitting for the homeless. Thank gives me joy beyond measure and fuels my desire to continue to teach.

A GIANT HUG for you Pat – and keep up the GREAT work – You’re still plenty young and there is soooooooo much need and so few people like you !

      • Pat December 7, 2015 at 7:12 am

        Thanks, Denise,

As my grandson is 12, and a smidgen shy of 6′ tall, I made his adult size hat with a 3 1/2 ” brim, using 2 strands of 5 gage yarn. Is that how you say it? Anyway, took the hat with me, to try to match the yarn, showing it to people who KNOW knitting. You’d LOVE their responses: “You MADE this…on a loom?”
“This is your FIRST hat? It’s perfect!”
“Besides being highly visible, and at night, too (reflective thread in the yarn), it’s going to be WARM!”

They all asked how I learned, my reply: loomahat.com!

BTW: you have a highly usable web site. Good luck with your book!

Denise, may you and yours have a Merry Christmas and a wonderful, happy, and healthy New Year.

        Thanks again, Pat

        • Denise Canela December 7, 2015 at 8:48 pm

OMG Pat – that was BEAUTIFUL – Thank you – Thank you – Thank you for making my night complete with giggles and everything.
GIANT hugs and a Really Big kiss !!!!

          • Pat December 18, 2015 at 11:59 am

Hi Denise, Wed., I gave an early Christmas gift, my 3rd hat! to a dear friend, who last week found out she has cancer. Needless to say, she was very upset, she’s only in her mid-30’s. Anyway, she got the biggest smile on her face, which went to her eyes. She’s a true fan of the Seattle Seahawks, so I had found yarn in Seahawks colors, really dark blue and a light green (Spring Green), had made the brim, dark blue and 3″, then switched off, as you taught, in your excellent video, one of the strands to the green, so had 3″ of variegated colors, then the top 3″ just the green, with a variegated pom-pom, my very first, which I made in the 4 finger hand method. She kept saying, ‘I’m so happy, I can’t believe I’m so happy and can’t stop smiling. It fit perfectly, and she left it on. So this is the lead up to what I wanted to thank you about. First, my daughter asked her if this past weekend, she would have thought she would have such a happy day this week (has to start treatment), and she responded, ‘NO’, and repeated how happy she was. I told her that whenever she saw it, she needed to remember she’s loved. She grinned and said she knew that! And then, I got a call from her on Thursday. On her way home, on the bus, a woman asked her what store she bought the beautiful hat at, as she wanted to buy one. My friend just grinned and told her that it was handmade for her as a gift. The woman had a hard time believing that, ‘as it looks totally professional’.

Denise, I’m NOT boasting for me, I’m thanking YOU for being such a great and generous person, and teacher, that you’re helping us. I KNOW that having her spirits uplifted, will truly help my friend during this, very real, fight for her life! Thank you, Thank you.

BTW: I gave the name of your website to another person, just this morning, at an appt. She said she’d look tonight when she gets home! SPREAD THE WORD!

    • Rosemary Robbins November 30, 2015 at 7:59 pm

Pat, I’m so glad you found something new, and that you’re able to loom knit. I am 67 and we are still young—we have a lot of KICK left in us. ha ha Happy Looming!

  4. Michele November 18, 2015 at 10:00 am

Thank you so much for all your helpful videos! I am a lot like you in the fact that knitting and crocheting left me frustrated because I would lose count or simply forget what I was doing, sometimes while I was doing it, LOL. Loom knitting was introduced to me in the same way too. I learned to e wrap, the rest I figured out on my own or through you lovely how tos. Thank you so much for taking the time to make them, I may not be able to offer a patronage, but I did subscribe to you on You tube AND, it may make you feel good to know that I make hats for my daughter to give to the homeless she sees going into work in Boston.
Thank you again, so nice to see the face that belongs to the hands on the videos. πŸ™‚

    • Denise Canela December 4, 2015 at 7:50 pm

Michele, sorry for the delay in responding – I wanted to tell you that you’re comment is priceless – means more to me then 100 purchases. You’ve taken from you’re precious time to say Thank you and to tell me that your daughter is giving to the homeless and that I had something to do with this beautiful action. Wow – I am extremely HAPPY !

  6. Cheri Cooke November 3, 2015 at 11:49 pm

    Hi, Denise:

I loved your video, hearing your sweet voice, and learning a little about you. I so appreciate all the work you put into your tutorials and thank you for inspiring me to loom.

I must say it’s contageous and I am now enoying sharing the love of looming with friends.

May the love of our Lord, richly bless you and all whom you hold dear.

    Hugs,
    Cheri

PS Do you have a section for troubleshooting and problem solving for knitting issues?

    • Denise Canela November 12, 2015 at 7:08 am

      Hi Cheri,
Sorry about the delay. At the moment I don’t – but I do need to put together a Frequently Asked Questions section – maybe for next year. But ask away and I will do my best to answer you

      • Cheri Cooke November 12, 2015 at 11:12 pm

My question is about the “gap” between rows, which occurs in line with the stationary peg. Whether or not I do the fold-over brim, or the roll-over brim, that vertical row always seems to be looser and gappier than all the rest.

My friends experience the same thing. I did an online search, and the only answer that came up was that perhaps the contents of the yarn lent itself to be more stretch, causing that lose row.

All the other rows are nice and tight. I wanted to send you a picture of what I am talking about, but don’t see a way to do that here. Is there a way I can send you a photo? As they say, “A picture is worth a thousand words!”

        Fondly,
        Cheri

        • Denise Canela November 13, 2015 at 7:49 am

Hi Cheri – I did see the pic on the Facebook page. But for the benefit of others will answer here too. That line is where you increase the rows. Pull on the next stitch that follows that one in order to tighten the stitch every time you increase. I show you this technique in the scarf video: Click HERE

  7. Rosemary Robbins November 3, 2015 at 1:11 am

Hi! I recently discovered you on YouTube. I had previously found someone else’s video on how to loom knit a hat. When I found you, I knew I’d come to the right person! I love your simple directions, and you have a very sweet voice and sound so patient. Thank you! My looms just arrived in the mail, so now all I need is yarn. I can’t wait to get started! I’m so happy to find your website. I’ll be visiting here a lot, I’m sure. I’m happy to “meet” you and see your pretty face. Keep up the good work! I’m planning to make most of my hats for charity, and maybe a few for gifts. Thanks a million!

    • Denise Canela November 5, 2015 at 7:13 am

Thank you Rosemary for taking the time to leave me this precious precious gift. You comments have filled my heart and blessed big time. Always VERY happy to know that I have been a part of someones work for charity.

      A HUGE HUG,

Wow! I’m glad I found time to watch this About Me! I am one of those, who buy all your PDFs at Craftsy. Didn’t realize I was helping others, but am very glad of it.

I’m also very grateful to have your patterns and videos as part of my life. You’ve taught me a new skill that I can share with so many in need.

    Thank you for everything!

    • Denise Canela October 10, 2015 at 10:15 pm

Hey THANK YOU Marquee ! I’m glad you found the time too. I wish I could thank everyone of you personally. Thanks for giving me this opportunity! You make this website and all it’s content possible.

Hi denise, thankyou for some very informative tutorials πŸ™‚ I am going to try my first loom knit tomorrow, I hope it turns out OK! How do we become patrons over in the UK?…

    • Denise Canela September 13, 2015 at 12:22 am

Yvonne, thank you for your interest in support me. I believe Patreon works the same Globally.

  10. Karen September 10, 2015 at 9:04 pm

Hi Denise, I too loved finally seeing the face behind all your wonderful videos. I learned to loom knit last winter and just love it. Unfortunately have problems with my thumb that may not let me continue, but I hope to work around it. I watched a!it of instructional videos and yours are by far my favorite. You have a real gift for teaching others what you love and that is a beautiful thing!!

    • Denise Canela September 11, 2015 at 8:54 pm

      Karen,
THANK YOU for all your kind words. I really appreciate them. Hope you resolve the limitations – I will say a little prayer for you.
      Hugs !

  14. Teresa Matson September 9, 2015 at 6:49 am

Hi Denise! I’m with everyone, so nice to see the face behind the voice! Your beautiful! You know I love your website, videos, patterns, etc! Finally got started on the double weave project and I love it! Think you will too! I’ll post a pic on Facebook for you sometime this week! Never stop! I always look forward to your newsletters and new videos! I am getting much better at reading patterns and the videos give me the confidence to try a new stitch and or pattern! I did not know you were on etsy! I knew you were on crafts you though! It seems to me that I can find more info from you on flat and round loom stitches and patterns. So many of the websites I follow concentrate on the double rake looms. They bore me, so I have been drawn to the round and flat panel single knit stitches and patterns! Just wanted you to know I love you for what you do and who you are! Always knew you were a great woman! Keep up the good work! Also love your sense of humor! ?

    • Denise Canela September 9, 2015 at 7:34 am

THANK YOU Teresa! You are SUPER sweet. What a great way to start my day !

  15. Kathy janelle September 9, 2015 at 6:24 am

Love your video. I started looming less than a year ago with one of your hat tutorials. I was hooked! Former knitter / crocheter. Still crochet some, but absolutely love looming. My 16 yr old neighbor is also hooked. you are very patient and easy to follow on the tutorials which was a great help. Thank you ann keep the free patterns coming. Kathy

    • Denise Canela September 9, 2015 at 10:39 pm

Hi Kathy, I love loom knitting – hope to do this for A LOT more years ! …. God willing

  16. Tina September 9, 2015 at 6:21 am

Hello Denise, ditto to the above comments. You are the best. Love your videos, website, patterns both free and the ones I’ve purchased. I hope you continue to share your wonderful makings with us as we all enjoy your work. Don’t let that negative person get to you. There are too many of us who look forward to your next project. Keep up the good work.

    • Denise Canela September 9, 2015 at 10:38 pm

THANK YOU Tina – You are Super Sweet. Big Hugs Loomy!

  17. Julie Isola September 9, 2015 at 6:18 am

I love your video’s. They are the ones I truly follow by cause I can understand them best. Thank you so much. I hope to one day be as good as you. Xx

    • Denise Canela September 9, 2015 at 7:37 am

Thanks for the Thanks Julie ! I truly appreciate it and listen – I’m still learning – you might catch up and pass me soon. πŸ™‚

  18. denise September 8, 2015 at 10:33 pm

Luv your website, patterns, videos, etc. And thanks for your patience. For some reason I always have an issue downloading the patterns I buy but you are always so quick to send it to me in a way that always works. I really love it that you work with OCC and the shoeboxes. My group at church makes about 500 hats for the shoeboxes and we often use your patterns. I am always excited when I see a new email from you. Thank you for your hard work and I will look into this new site.

    • Denise Canela September 8, 2015 at 10:46 pm

Hey denise – First, love the name πŸ™‚ and the fact that you write in small letters – and an OCC sister – Oh my, I have found my twin !!!. BIG BIG BIG Hugs to you and please extend some of that love over to the church group – Tell them I say they are BEAUTIFUL – 500 little smiles – There are angels singing !

  19. Margaret September 8, 2015 at 9:48 pm

Love being able to put a face with your name (and it’s a beautiful one, too!) When I went over to YouTube to give you a thumbs-up, no thumbs-down yet! ? Some people are jealous of others’ success, and that’s the only reason I can think of when I see negative ratings on free tutorials (yours and other loomers’.) I can cook from a recipe, no problem, but you ask me to read most looming patterns and I’m lost! When I watch your videos I think, “Oh! I get it! I can do that!” Thanks so much!

    • Denise Canela September 8, 2015 at 10:40 pm

Thank You Margaret for your kind words – I have to giggle about the thumps down – maybe he/she is still on summer vacation. πŸ™‚ Again, Thanks for the Thanks – very much appreciated !
      Big Hugs

  20. Connie September 8, 2015 at 8:35 pm

Hi Denise! LOVED your video and the chance to meet you! I have just started loom knitting in the last week, and the things I have done have been from your video tutorials. They are so easy to follow, and I feel so proud when I have completed a project! Thank you , thank you , thank you! I would love to be able to knit some hats and scarves and donate to a homeless shelter in a city not too far from me. Winter is coming, and if it is like last year, it’s gonna be a tough one. It would be wonderful to help them out. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to be able to do that! I look forward to seeing all of your video’s, and look forward to all that are to come. Blessings to you!

    • Denise Canela September 8, 2015 at 9:22 pm

Thank you Connie for ALL the beautiful and Kind word. You have blessed me. Keep knitting for those shelters they really need it. We have so much and they have so little.
Big Hugs for you Friend – You’ve made me VERY happy !

  21. Peppy Brooks September 8, 2015 at 7:37 pm

Denese- so wonderful to meet the lady behind my favorite web site. You have inspired me since the moment I first visited your web site- I adore your patterns and stitches and love, love, love your videos. Keep up the incredible work, you are AWESOME lady!

  22. Connie September 8, 2015 at 7:28 pm

Ah, Denise!!! What a great video! I watch you so much and your right….folks want to see the lovely face behind the teaching hands. I’m a beginner, I work with a small group at church and am so very grateful I found you. You are patient and kind and knowledgeable — just everything someone could hope for in a teacher. I’m going to check out this Patron website you spoke of. The truth is I would love to send you a financial donation but I’m just not good enough to purchase a pattern. (Actually, I’m not sure quite how to do that!). I know this e-mail is sent with great intention and gratitude, but I also know it will do little to pay for operating expenses. You have my e-mail — Could you send me an address where I might send a donation (small as it may be). I would also like to send you a picture of some of the hats I did, under your guidance, and has now been placed on the church website!!! But please know, you bring SO MUCH joy, happiness and peaceful giving to folks — actually, Denise, a gift that has no price tag. Thank you for all you do, I look forward to hearing from you. All my best, Connie

    • Denise Canela September 8, 2015 at 7:34 pm

Connie, if you’re using my pattern for your small group at church – you are blessing me greatly. I THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart. Just the fact that you have taken from your precious time to write out this comment means the world to me – and it is priceless. I LOVE A GIVER – Folks like you are better then money you’re fuel for my soul.
A BIG KISS AND A GIANT HUGS Sister !

  23. Debbie September 8, 2015 at 5:36 pm

Hi Denise. I love the video!!!! Great job. I think Loomahat is the perfect name. When I’m looking for a hat pattern, your site is the first place I look. I also tell others to visit your site if they need sizing info or are looking for some different patterns.

I just recently made 2 hats for our granddaughter due in November, using your stitches. One was the Diamond Brocade and the other was the Tiny Heart stitch. I posted them in the Loom group.

When I can get caught up on some of my awaiting projects, I plan on making hats for kids in our school district. We are a small rural village with quite a bit of poverty. I plan on using several of your stitch patterns for the hats and possibly matching scarves.

Keep up the good work. I look forward to seeing more beautiful stitches.

  24. Jennifer L September 8, 2015 at 4:44 pm
