KK Hat Loom – The Purple Loom is HOT

$100 for the KK Hat Loom !

KK Hat Loom

I bought the Knifty Knitter Purple Hat Loom for $14.00 on Amazon in November 2014 and now in March 2015 it is selling on eBay for $100.00.  Can you believe it?

It’s true. The KK Hat Loom is selling for 10 times its original price. I understand. This is my FAVORITE of all the Knifty Knitter looms. It was a bit hard to find when you could easily buy this brand of  looms now it’s close to impossible. Well that is unless you have $100.00 that you’re willing to invest in a loom that doesn’t even come in the original packaging. I think it’s crazy….but shipping is FREE.

Buy It

The purple Knifty Knitter Hat Loom is now the Hot Loom

I have to admit that I did give it a teenie tiny eety beety second thought. Then I had to step back and think about how many other brands I could buy for WAY less and how much change I would get back from my Benjamin. It’s crazy .. but is it?

.

I’m not selling nor Buying this loom. BUT IF YOU GOT IT LIKE THAT – To Buy it : Click HERE (SOLD)
–  A Great Alternative is Cottage Looms –

.
This could be considered an emotional buy but it’s beginning to look more like an investment. At least that’s what I would tell my husband if I were to take this leap. I have had stocks, bonds and mutual funds and other than Sirius Radio I have never seen this level of return. Very tempting. But alas I have one that is brand new in its original package that I’m going to put away in my safe. LOL.

UPDATE:

KK Purple hat Loom Sold 500x225

Cottage LoomsSince I wrote this post people have asked for an alternative to the 48-peg loom. NOTE that the other Knifty Knitters do not replace this loom. None of the ones that come in the kits .The purple KK loom was never put in any kit. This one had a smaller gauge, so although it had a larger peg count then say the extra-large yellow loom the purple loom was actually smaller in circumference. knifty-knitter-looms

For those that have asked about Cottage Looms… Here is my answer. It is a great choice. I don’t use them more often only because they’re a bit heavier than most. But it’s a very strong, well-built, durable and great looking loom. These folks still have 100% feedback  in the past 12 months on eBay and from someone who also sells on eBay that is no small feat. I am proud to say that this is an American Made product. A bit higher in  cost but worth the expense. Did I mention you can ask some custom features.

Has anyone tried the wooden 48 peg Cottage Loom? I saw them on Ebay and Etsy.

Cottage Looms Looms are AWESOME. They can be a bit tricky to get used to at the beginning but once you get the hang of it. You will love them. They have an amazing 100% feedback. I own one. They are built incredible well. I don’t use them as much only because they can be a bit heavy and I have to travel with my loom

Interesting turn of events. One of the sellers on eBay that sold one of these looms for over$100.00 has re-listed the loom with the following disclaimer:

**We are sorry to have to include this, but please, do not bid on this item if you do not intend to follow through and purchase it. There are a lot of avid loom knitters out there who would really love to have one of these. Losing the bid or item to someone who constantly raises the price and has no intent to pay makes a lot of people unhappy.

I feel this must be a pricing error…… I have one and it only cost me 10.00

    • Denise Canela March 16, 2015 at 7:30 am

No Terri – that was the price and it sold in 1 day

I was lucky enough to get the kk hat loom when Amazon had it. I love it – it is my favorite loom. I started to loom knit last year after severe arthritis caused me to stop knitting with needles. I, too, saw the Making A Difference segment on NBC News and ordered a set of looms and started making hats. Now I try every stitch that I see on Loom A Hat – I can’t purl very well, but I love the knit stitches. Thank you, Denise.

I love to make squares on the kk hat loom -the smaller gauge is great for baby blankets. I just ordered a set of Cindilooms. Can’t wait till they get here.

    Glad i have 2

I have the complete set of KK looms. I started purchasing the Cindwood looms and was going to give away my KK looms, but not now. LOL

Denise, I checked out Ebay and I’m pretty sure these crazy prices are decimal point errors. $169.99 was probably meant to be $16.99 and $129.50 for a single purple looms should be $12.95. If anyone pays these prices, it better go straight to charity or they need to have their head examined!

Wow! This is crazy! I just bought a three piece combo (out of the package blue, yellow, and red) of Knifty Knitter looms at my local Value Village for a couple dollars. There were more on the shelf, maybe I should run right out and buy them! I too would love to find out why they aren’t being made anymore. You can get a KK loom set of 4 on Amazon today for around $22, why are people paying so much elsewhere?

    • Joanna Brandt March 14, 2015 at 10:35 am

Shannon, the purple 48 peg ones are more rare than the other knifty knitter looms. Not as many were made. They were not sold in sets but individually.

      • Shannon R March 17, 2015 at 2:41 pm

Thanks for the information Joanna! I’ll be sure to keep a look out for the purple looms whenever I’m at my favorite thrift shops!

I wonder why KK has been discontinued with them being such a great product that so many loom knitters love?? Anyone know? I’ve been pleased with my Loops and Threads Knit Quick looms from Michaels but will also check out CinDwood looms as I’ve heard such great reviews on them!

    • Joanna Brandt March 14, 2015 at 10:43 am

Brooke, knifty knitter looms were made by provocraft. They were I heard bought out by boye which now makes similar looms which in my opinion are far worse. Denise Canela has a post here about provocraft disappearing and how to get the often hard to find old free patterns https://www.loomahat.com/provo-craft/

I second the CinDWood looms! Amazing!! Such great quality and you can choose your gauge, 3/4″ 1/2″ or 5/8″ just like the purple KK (which I own, but did not pay $100 for it). http://premiumknittinglooms.com/product/adult-hat-loom/

I’m wondering if getting one of these will solve my current hat problem? I have the knifty knitter regular set and am making hats for my 6 and 8 year old as well as myself. The 41 peg is pretty big in me but I use a very bulky yarn and it’s a very slouchy beanie. The next size down is the 36 peg and I used a double worsted weight yarn for my then 5 year old’s hat last year and it’s too tight on him now. Way too tight on my 8 year old and they are not big kids. I have no idea why sizing is so hard. I’ve been researching and saw this purple one that you can’t find any more. Not sure what to do. I’ve started a hat on the KB loom but so not fu. With those tiny pegs!! It takes forever!! Would the cindwood be the answer? Anyone have ideas please? I enjoy the plastic looms with bulky yarn!! Please any advice is appreciated!!

Love that loom glad I have it

  12. Karen March 13, 2015 at 10:04 am

They also have one for $129.50 . Did they bump there heads?

  13. Mary Y March 13, 2015 at 9:37 am

I’m fairly new to loom knitting since I started in April 2014 after I saw a Making a Difference story on NBC Nightly News about a young woman who was looming hats for preemies at her local hospital. I found a reference to the Loom-A-Hat website on her Facebook page and then purchased a set of Knifty Knitter looms based on the recommendations I found on this site. I paid $14.00 for the set of 4 round looms from Amazon. I then set off and made 50 preemie hats using the small (blue) loom and the wonderful instructions and videos posted on this site. I then found out that my local hospital receives plenty of knitted items for babies from local churches so the need was not great for more preemie hats. I then remembered that I saw a pattern on the 100+ patterns section on this site for an adult chemo cap that was posted courtesy of Knots of Love org in California. I then set off to start making these adult caps after I talked to volunteer coordinator at the hospital who said she had a need. Using he medium (red) loom and the recommended Bernat Pipsqueak yarn I got 1 hat done then 2, then 10 then 20. It was so easy and fast. To date I have made over 525 hats using the same red loom and pick tool with all hats being donated to my local hospital and Knots of Love. After about 50 hats I wanted to jazz them up a bit and bought the other set on Amazon for under $11.00 that included the flower loom. I have made over 400 ribbon flowers on that loom. If that’s not a testimony for product quality and reliability, not sure what would be. I absolutely love my Knifty Knitter looms and recommend them to everyone.

Along the hat vein I wanted to add the purple loom to my collection so I could make bigger hats if requested. This was back in January and I quickly found that Amazon no longer had them and couldn’t find any listed on eBay either. I then turned to a vendor on Amazon called 7Gifts who listed many Knifty Knitter products and asked about the purple loom. A very kind customer representative said she would check the warehouse and contacted me a few days later and said they had one and listed it on Amazon so I could purchase for $15.00. I had a search setup in eBay from earlier and saw the first auction for a purple loom list a few weeks back. I watched the bidding on this loom go way out of control. A few more then popped up and also the same high bidding. I’ve seen a new one sell at auction for $122.50 plus shipping and a used on go for $119.00 on a buy it not option. I agree it is absolutely crazy to pay that much and am so happy I got mine when I did. I was telling my husband and he had a good analogy for this comparing the purple loom to beenie babies back in the 90s. They were hot and selling for $$$$$$ and then they were not and worth the normal $ price. If you really want one the purple loom, just be patient for pricing to come back to normal.

I think it’s crazy to spend that much $$$ on the kk purple loom. I just purchased the cindiloom round 48 peg 5/8″ for $22. Exactly the same as the kk purple loom. Take advantage of this new loom. Love it!!!!

    • Denise Canela March 13, 2015 at 7:41 am

      I LOVE CindiLooms !

    • Joanna Brandt March 13, 2015 at 10:36 am

Yes! Cindwood makes the exact same loom and is even better quality! They also have a smaller 44 peg loom with 5/8″ gauge that I’m excited to be getting soon!
