Why Red Heart Black Light Yarn
So I wanted to use some inexpensive yarn to test a pattern for a new diamond lace stitch hat and scarf. Since Super Saver yarn is my default test yarn I thought I would go all out and use the craziest multi-color option I could find, for me it was the Red Heart Black Light. Wow talk about psychedelic. I could feel the room spinning just by looking at the skein even before making anything. It is definitely for very happy people. Maybe it’s just me but the sight of it begs the question, would you use this color of variegated yarn for your own project?
Would I Wear Red Heart Black Light
Now I consider myself a happy person but would I wear something made with this yarn? I’m not sure that I can pull it off. I think I need my big sister to push me forward on that journey.Believe it or not, I’m a black and earth tone nut. You wouldn’t know it from looking at my patterns. I almost always use bright colors, but nothing like Red Heart Black Light. It is neon wild. Maybe the brights are brighter because they added the black in-between the yellows, pinks, orange and blues. For what ever the reason ,I think for a 5’0″ , chubby, 40 something it might be a little too much. But for those of you that are bold well I thought you might like to see something made with yarn that bursts with bright colors and decide for yourself. Above is a picture of that test hat and the matching scarf. I can easily imagine the set with a cute short black dress and some long high-heeled boots and splash of silver jewelry here and there. I can imagine the assemble just keep wondering if I would wear it.
What do you think …. a bit too much or just right amount? Would you wear the hat and scarf set made with Red Heart Black Light yarn?

My teen age girls will love it!!!!
I would wear anything made with that yarn! Maybe not pants. I just got some yesterday. Michaels is having a huge yarn sale right now. I’d like to make the hat that you made. Is that pattern going to be available? The people who submitted the pictures of what they have made already are so talented! Bravo and wear what you like….Celebrate Life!
Hi Renee, Yes – that hat will be available next month.
I have the Martha Stewart loom and weaving system. For the life of me I cannot figure how many pegs to do a toddler hat and a matching child’s hat? No one seems to have a simple listing of this desired hat size one uses this number go pegs… Help as Christmas is coming quickly…. Please!
Sue, most people get fixated on the number of pegs – that’s not really that important – when you find a pattern that you like just find out the SIZE of the loom. That’s what is really important. Note that the 48-peg loom from Knifty Knitter is smaller then the 41-peg loom. MS allows your to “put the loom together” so you get as close to the size of the loom being used on the pattern – then number of pegs is just going to make your stitches tighter or looser.
This bright yarn should be avoided by Muggles, but everyone else should feel free to flaunt their colors!
I am a grandma and a great-grandma, 66 years old (I am 5′ 3″ and chubby,( I was told that grandma’s are supposed to be fluffy). I would difinitely wear something made with this yarn I love all of the colors in it. I would wear a sweater made with this with a pair of black slacks or a sleevless pullover and a black sweater. I would use it for a scarf and I know that my daughters will love it too when they see it. This is the first time I have seen this yarn-I will be going to JoAnn’s in the morning!
This hat and scarf are beautifully kick-ass! I say go for it. Yes, I would wear it. In fact, I have picked up skeins of this yarn when shopping for something else and regretfully put it down. It may be time to have my own! Thanks for all the great patterns and the sharing of your creative journey.
Thank you Melissa – Go back and get it girl – every one here and on Facebook are giving me some mad courage for color !
I love it! Short and 51! I’m not a fan of RH Super Saver, but I am thinking it would be hysterical to whip up a couple of dog sweaters with it! For girls, might have to add a ruffle skirt and make matching hats! Also thinking a fleece lined hat for me, I walk to work and this time of year it’s usually dark out! Bet they would see me with that on! Hmmm, now you have me thinking! ?
You are toooooo Funny !
I would definitely wear the scarf. It would add pop to a black outfit. Not sure I would wear the hat and scarf together. Might be a little too much for me. Someone younger could pull it off.
The more I look at the yarn, the more I like it! I’m a much more than chubby 60yr. old with a plain black coat and if I like something I don’t really care if others think it looks silly! That being said when I see it in person I might back away from it! LOL I love your posts, your patterns and videos are really easy to follow. Thank you for all the help you’ve given me without even knowing!
