Pumpkin Hat on a Long Loom
Here is a VERY special FREE Pumpkin hat pattern. First , it’s made on a long loom and second the spiral was made on the spool loom. Yes I’m talking about that corky little spirally thingy we love to see on baby hats sometimes called a Curlicue Tendril that I thought could only be done with a crochet hook. But this is what you can expect from Brenda Myers. If you’ve been on this site long enough you know that I am a huge fan.
The pattern is available in a printable and downloadable PDF format. Includes pictures and charts. Like all of Brenda’s patterns the Pumpkin Hat Pattern is extremely detailed, with pictures and awesome instructions. It is made on a long loom but I believe you can use a 36-peg round loom. Note that I haven’t tried out the pattern myself yet but it should work with any just adjust your number of rows to fit your desired hat size.

Supplies Needed for the Pumpkin Hat
Although Brenda uses the Knifty Knitter brand and a specific number of pegs other brands will work just as well so don’t get hung-up on that.
Long Loom : 42-peg Knifty Knitter loom was used – If you don’t have this loom use the 36-peg Round Loom from Knifty Knitter or any comparable brand – your change will come when it’s time to do the brim. Just use a Decreased Crown method.
Flower Loom: 12-peg Knifty Knitter was used
Spool Loom: The Spool loom will only be used if you have difficulty with decreases.
Loom Clip: The Knifty Knitter clips were used. These clips work with all the KK long looms and some of the other brands as well. VERY cool little tool to have.
Yarn: Vanna’s Choice in Terracotta and Olive
Yarn Needle : Yarn needles come in different sizes. Get the right one for your yarn.
Crochet Hook: Crochet Hooks come in different sizes. Get the right one for your yarn.
The Bonus Part !
Being able to make all these extra little parts like the leaf, stem and the spiral on the loom is really awesome. It’s a technique that you can use not just for the Pumpkin hat but for lots of other loom knitting projects. Especially if you knit for babies.
